Topic description
This topic aims to provide opportunities via an online learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds to learn about food in modern Australia and share their food knowledge, culture and customs. Students will be required to complete practical exercises including growing food and cooking and to investigate aspects of food and nutrition in the digital age.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • Introduce students to food and food culture in modern Australia

  • Introduce students to skills required to grow and prepare their own food

  • Familiarise students with contemporary food media

  • Encourage independent learning skills while at the same time work collaboratively.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of modern Australian food and food culture

  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of domestic food production and preparation

  • Appraise and discuss a range of contemporary food media

  • Work collaboratively to investigate a food-related topic of interest and to communicate findings using digital media
