OCCT8005 - Occupational Therapy Evaluation and Practice 3

Content from the first year of the Master of Occupational Therapy and the required prerequisites

This topic will enable students to build knowledge and skills for occupational therapy evaluation and intervention in physical dysfunction including acute care and rehabilitation across a range of settings. Theoretical approaches that will be explicitly addressed include the biomechanical model, cognitive-perceptual model and principles of motor learning and motor control. Key practice areas that will be covered include neurological rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, upper limb injuries, work rehabilitation and injury prevention, palliative care, use of assistive technology and management of chronic health using contemporary practice.

The aim of this topic is to extend the student's ability to apply the Occupational Therapy Process, and key theoretical approaches to practice, and to refine core skills in occupational therapy evaluation and practice in the areas of acute care, rehabilitation and physical dysfunction.

On completion of this topic, students will be able to:

• Apply the Occupational Therapy Process, the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and key occupational therapy practice models to case scenarios at an advanced level

• Demonstrate selected evaluation and practice skills relevant to physical dysfunction

• Apply occupational therapy approaches and interventions in the context of selected disorders and diseases and practice environments.
