Understanding of fundamental human anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.

This topic endeavours to develop the paramedic students' skills in patient related data collection. Running concurrently with the Clinical Decision Making Topic, Clinical Assessment draws upon the students formative education including the first year Bioscience, Primary & Secondary Surveys and all second year Pathophysiology topics, in developing a skills set essential to the pre-hospital clinician.

To develop the student's ability to conduct a holistic patient assessment, develop an understanding of particular significant patient historical and clinical signs and symptoms.

At the completion of this topic it is intended that the participants will be able to:

Demonstrate effective communication skills required to obtain effective patient historical information
Incorporate their knowledge of anatomical regions and structures and their physiological functions towards their clinical practice
Integrate their existing knowledge of pathophysiology and paramedic practice into clinical patient investigation
Apply a range of examination skills and techniques in order to elicit specific physiological performance information from patients
Recognise and understand the significance of common patient signs and symptoms linked with specific disease states
Demonstrate an awareness of diagnostic investigations required beyond the pre-hospital arena
