Topic description
Introduces students to the physiotherapy profession including the development of the profession, scope of current physiotherapy practice, the professional framework in Australia and the philosophical, ethical and theoretical basis for practice.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to introduce and orientate students to the profession of physiotherapy.
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic, students will be able to:

  • describe at a beginning level the application of physical therapy to enhance health

  • describe the key elements of the physiotherapy process and apply this to a case study

  • define and use key terms in physiotherapy

  • describe the development, organization, typical work environments and scope of practice for the profession in Australia

  • identify at a beginning level the underlying philosophical, theoretical and ethical base for the profession
