Topic description
The topic establishes the foundation skills necessary for students to design and undertake an applied professional research project. Topics covered include project design, professional writing, academic conventions, data management, data sets, presentation skills and a selection of relelvant applied research and data analysis methods suitable for professional research projects.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

equip students with a range of theoretical, academic, practical and professional skills and capacities necessary for undertaking a professional research project in public administration.
Expected learning outcomes

On successful completion of this topic students should be able to:
  1. construct a research proposal for a professional research project;
  2. demonstrate application of a selection of applied research methods; and
  3. understand research ethics and ethical issues in research.
