Topic description
The topic establishes the foundation skills necessary for students to undertake research in the social sciences. It has a theoretical component that teaches students what is scientific research in the social sciences, and explores what are research questions, theory, and hypotheses. It also has a strong practical component that teaches students how to write a research project in all of its parts (introduction, literature review, data and methodology, results, conclusion and bibliography).
Educational aims
This topic aims to equip students with a range of theoretical, academic and professional skills and capacities necessary for undertaking research in the social sciences.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students should be able to:
  1. conduct research in the social sciences;
  2. write a research proposal;
  3. understand theory and practice in social science research.
