Topic description
This topic explores techniques and issues involved in writing short articles for publication in digital and print media. Technical aspects such as researching, interview approaches and formats, and editing will be covered. Issues such as ethical and legal obligations will be addressed.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • Provide students with the opportunity to explore techniques for writing for print and electronic media publications
  • Introduce students to ethical and legal considerations when producing media publications
  • Develop students’ skills in editing their own work in the production of articles for publication
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • Prepare for, and carry out, interviews for the preparation of media articles
  • Discuss ethical standards, and their implications, when developing articles for media industries
  • Critically edit their own work, and analyse the work of other writers in the field
  • Outline the role of a range of media publications in contemporary Australian industries
  • Write articles at publication standard for specified digital or print media
