This topic explores the sociological and psychological theories relating to impairment, activity and participation in the context of rehabilitation. In particular, the part played by motivation and cultural factors in the rehabilitation process are explored and common social and psychological disorders which arise in rehabilitation are addressed.

The aim of this topic is to explore the theoretical and practical applications of sociological and psychological theories to clinical rehabilitation

Students need to be able to:

• Understand a variety of different sociological and psychological theories and concepts related to clinical rehabilitation.

• Analyse rehabilitation practice from a range of different psychosocial perspectives.

• Demonstrate an appreciation of the social impact of injury on an individual.
