Clinical Rehabilitation Practice will involve a part-time clinical placement in a rehabilitation setting for over the semester. Students will observe diagnosis and natural history of common conditions requiring rehabilitation, obtain clinical assessment skills, review rehabilitation plans, treatment, evaluation and the team approach.

This topic has four specific educational aims:

To introduce students to the management and function of an Australian rehabilitation unit
To provide a foundation for students to participate in delivering holistic, integrated care specific to the needs of clients undergoing rehabilitation
To provide an opportunity for students to apply theoretical knowledge and attitudes and develop clinical skills that underpin quality care for the rehabilitation client, and
To use teaching and learning strategies to encourage students to think critically about treatment through application of critical reflection and evidence based clinical practice.

On completion of this topic, students should be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of the structure and function of a rehabilitation unit
Display an understanding of the role and function of the multidisciplinary team
Discuss discipline roles as they apply to a client with complex rehabilitation needs
Analyse the rehabilitation process for rehabilitation clients
Evaluate rehabilitation treatments
