Topic description
This topic aims to prepare students to be effective rehabilitation nursing practitioners and to provide clinical leadership of rehabilitative nursing practice. Students will:

  • Critique contemporary frameworks for rehabilitation nursing practice

  • Explore the utilisation of the various levels of nurses to enhance patient rehabilitation

  • Use the Australasian Rehabilitation Nurses Association's Rehabilitation Nursing Competency Standards for Registered Nurses to develop their practice, and

  • Develop skills in the design of rehabilitation nursing interventions.

Educational aims
This topic aims to prepare students to be effective rehabilitation nursing practitioners and to provide clinical leadership of rehabilitative nursing practice.
Expected learning outcomes
Completion of this topic will enable students to:

  • Understand rehabilitation as a process owned and experienced by patients

  • Critically discuss contemporary frameworks for rehabilitation nursing practice

  • Use the Australasian Rehabilitation Nurses Association's Rehabilitation Nursing Competency Standards for Registered Nurses in the development of practice

  • Selectively utilise the various levels of nurses to enhance patient rehabilitation

  • Design rehabilitation nursing interventions.
