Topic description
This topic allows students to conduct research in an area of special interest and to further develop their knowledge of health research. In this topic students will implement the strategies learnt from Research Methods. Supervision and support will be arranged in negotiation with the topic coordinator.
Educational aims
This topic aims to provide students with the opportunity to complete a research dissertation that demonstrates acquisition of skills and knowledge in designing and conducting a research relating to a procedure, policy or public health intervention in a remote and Indigenous Primary Health Care setting. The project will add to the body of knowledge and inform the continuing development of the discipline of Remote Health.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be able to effectively communicate the research in the form of a written research dissertation which:

  • Provides a description of the topic and its significance

  • Explains the development of the research question as it relates to Remote Health practice, health outcomes and the existing body of research

  • Provides a description and justification for the choice of research methodology, research design and method(s)

  • Describes the process of data collection and analysis

  • Interprets findings in relation to contemporary literature and theory

  • Critically discusses findings from study in relation to implications for practice and contribution to the body of knowledge about remote and Indigenous Health, and the interprofessional discipline of Remote Health.
