Topic description
3D Media Studio A introduces students to the core competencies in the industry themes: games, animation and visual effects. It provides flexibility and certainty across a range of interests and abilities within these industry standards. It does this by providing a series of linked, industry-themed, modules to form core competencies. Students will be able to specialise or generalise in the three 3D media industry themes covered. Students will complete the topic with an introductory practical and theoretical knowledge of these core industry themes.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • Introduce students to 3D media, and the 3D media industry

  • Provide students with introductory technical skills necessary to realise their creative pursuits

  • Foster students’ communication skills in articulating ideas and concepts, using appropriate vocabulary for the 3D media industry
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to demonstrate:

  • basic concepts of 3D modelling, animation and visual effects techniques either collectively or separately, as it applies to industry standards

  • the ability to use a short vocabulary relevant to understanding and practice in 3D games, animation and visual effects

  • the ability to identify and explain a range of 3D games, animation and visual effects concepts and applications
