Topic description
This topic explores the notion of designing interactive interfaces with the user in mind. It addresses the concepts of user testing, interviewing techniques, prototyping, and heuristic evaluation of hand-held devices, Web and installations. From this, students will be able to recognise, evaluate, and design interactive devices following sound usability principles.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide students with an understanding of the core concepts of user-centred interaction design as it applies to industry standards

  • allow students to acquire a working vocabulary relevant to understanding user-centred interaction design

  • have students become familiar with a range of interactive interfaces and their usability issues
Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic students will:
