Topic description
This topic provides students with the opportunity to pursue a supervised, independent study in a specialised production area including: producing, directing, cinematography, production design, sound design or editing.
Educational aims
This topic aims to provide students will opportunities to:

  • build on specialised production skills including: producing, directing, production design, camera and lighting, editing, sound recording, and sound post production

  • develop advanced screen production skills through individual research and assignments

  • pursue detailed, self-driven research into a specific area of screen production or post-production

  • hone skills which will assist them when entering the work place
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to demonstrate:

  • a good working knowledge of a specific production or post-production process

  • the capacity to complete assignments with a high level of sophistication

  • the practice of working with production equipment or process

  • skills in operating screen production equipment and software, including a high level of competence in the use of digital cameras, location sound recording equipment, non-linear picture editing on Final Cut Pro and sound editing in Pro Tools

  • appropriate and meaningful visual language for use in screen stories

  • a high level of motivation and enthusiasm for a specialised area of production or post-production
