Topic description
In this topic students will be introduced to the situation of children worldwide, with particular emphasis on those living in the Global South, where children represent almost 40% of the total population. Complex issues such as child labour and trafficking, children in situations of war and conflict, international adoption, refugee and migrant children, and indigenous children (including those in Australia) will be examined critically in the light of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), the UN Millenium Development Goals (2000), and the UN Declaration on A World Fit for Children (2002). Social work responses internationally will be examined and critiqued.
