Topic description
Students will gain skills in analysing and presenting research findings in a scientific manner and using evidence based practice in their clinical work. Students will either, (1) work on a small research project under supervision, or (2) work independently and in small groups to develop the research skills necessary for engaging in evidence-based practice.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to;

  • develop students' skills in the selection of statistical analyses, and quantitative and qualitative interpretation of data.

  • give students the opportunity to gain skills in reporting research findings in a scientific format.

  • provide students with the skills to critically analyse research to support evidence based practice.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be able to;

  1. Formulate a testable research/clinical question

  2. Collect and analyse data (e.g. conduct a literature search or collect research data) related to the research/clinical question

  3. Interpret and draw appropriate conclusions for the results

  4. Critically analyse research to support evidence based practice

  5. Report the outcomes in a scientific manner.
