Topic description
This topic will provide an overview of Christian education as it takes place in and through the life of the Christian community. Students will practise and develop their skills in educational design and teaching.
Educational aims
The aims of this topic are to:

  • develop approaches to Christian education which equip the church for faithful participation in Christ's mission and ministry in the world
  • develop the gifts of participants in the course, that they might offer leadership in the Christian education ministry of the church
  • examine various aspects of Christian education that take place in and through the Christian community

Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic students will be able to:

  • outline the nature and purpose of Christian education, including the variety of educational approaches appropriate to congregations, parishes, schools or other ministry contexts
  • present an educational program for a congregation, parish or school or other educational context, which will serve their educational purposes in their particular ministry context
  • identify their own role as teachers in and through the life of the church
  • demonstrate their competence as an educator through teaching a session in class or in a local ministry context
