Topic description
This topic surveys the major beliefs and practices of several world religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Chinese Religions, Judaism and Islam. It also introduces students to the study of religion today, particularly in contemporary Australia.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • become familiar with the beliefs and practices of several major world religions
  • develop an understanding of the issues facing religions today
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • identify, analyse, and differentiate the basic beliefs of several religious traditions
  • recognise and discuss the significance and experience of 'ordinary' believers
  • explore and discuss how religions have interacted, both positively and negatively, in history and the implications of this for pluralistic societies today.
