Topic description
In this topic the questions of Old Testament theology, Old Testament theologies or history of Israel's religion will be dealt with. Various themes and their contribution to theology will be considered along with discussion of recent works in Old Testament theology. Consideration of the hermeneutical questions related to the Old Testament will be considered.
Educational aims
This topic aims to introduce students to Old Testament Theology so they are:

  • aware of the variety of approaches to Old Testament Theology
  • able to identify a theology or theologies in the Old Testament
  • able to use the Old Testament creatively in their study, preaching and ongoing development as theologians

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • undertake a critical reading of various portions of Old Testament theologies and trace their connections to the texts under consideration
  • identify various theologies in the Old Testament
  • employ the Old Testament creatively in their, study, preaching and ongoing theological development
