Topic description
This topic provides advanced knowledge and skills in areas related to Christian education, as an area of practice in the Christian community. Theoretical and practical issues related to education design and teaching will be explored and evaluated. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on areas of personal connection with their practice of education, as related to the broader Christian community.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide advanced knowledge and skills in relation to Christian education that equips individuals for participation in church and community activities
  • provide students with the opportunity to critically analyse their individual areas of strength in the field of Christian education, and to evaluate areas of leadership development
  • critically evaluate various aspects of Christian education that take place in a range of contemporary contexts
Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic students will be able to:

  • articulate and evaluate an advanced theological knowledge of Christian education, with reference to the Bible, church history and contemporary experience
  • apply contemporary knowledge of the psycho-social, spiritual and vocational development in relation to learning
  • apply theory about learning communities and communities of practice to planning for educational leadership
  • articulate an approach to educational leadership appropriate to the students’ ministry context
  • apply learning theories to development of strategies for the formation of Christian disciples, and evaluate their outcomes
