Topic description
This topic examines the concepts of culture and worldview. It will enable students to understand the way in which culture and worldview relate to the human person and their understanding of the world. Students will develop the skills to understand the way in which culture and worldview relate to the communication of theological ideas and interact with the practice of Christian ministry, both in Australia and overseas.
Educational aims
The aims of this topic are to:

  • analyse the concepts of culture and worldview from a Christian perspective.
  • examine the impact of culture upon Christian theology and practice.
  • Enable students to develop an awareness of their own worldview and cultural influences.
  • provide students with the tools to engage in basic ethnographic analysis.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • creatively reinterpret and communicate Christian doctrine to a cultural group different to their own.
  • critically reflect and analyse scholarly literature related to culture and worldview.
  • discuss the potential for conflict within multicultural contexts based on the meanings different groups may attribute to the same form.
  • Synthesise a range of different perspectives and worldviews in order to reflect on one’s own
