Topic description
This topic introduces contemporary approaches to research in areas of theology, biblical and ministry studies. It provides students with tools in the identification of a research problem, undertaking a literature review, selecting and evaluating appropriate research methodologies, identifying ethical issues and the formulation of a research proposal. Students will be introduced to the skills, competencies and technical methods required for research within the theological disciplines.

To provide students with a practical understanding of how to undertake a research project.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of the current approaches and assumptions of research in their selected theological discipline

  • evaluate critically research methodologies and identify those appropriate for their proposed project

  • review scholarly literature relevant to their field of research critically

    demonstrate familiarity with research methods and protocols.
