Topic description
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide an overview of the purpose and diversity of research in tourism arena

  • introduce the concepts and principles of research process including literature review, research paradigms, methodologies, methods and data forms

  • further develop analytical and critical reading and writing skills in the creation of effective research proposals

  • provide knowledge and resources to formulate and prepare for successful tourism research activities
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the diversity of research needs and purposes for varying tourism sectors

  • formulate sound research questions and complementary methodologies based on their understanding of the underpinning theoretical context

  • develop an academic research proposal to achieve a desired outcome for an identified tourism sector

  • demonstrate familiarity with skills and techniques required during the research process, in order to prepare industry-relevant proposals
