Topic description
Educational aims
This topic aims to:
- provide an overview of the purpose and diversity of research in tourism arena
- introduce the concepts and principles of research process including literature review, research paradigms, methodologies, methods and data forms
- further develop analytical and critical reading and writing skills in the creation of effective research proposals
- provide knowledge and resources to formulate and prepare for successful tourism research activities
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the diversity of research needs and purposes for varying tourism sectors
- formulate sound research questions and complementary methodologies based on their understanding of the underpinning theoretical context
- develop an academic research proposal to achieve a desired outcome for an identified tourism sector
- demonstrate familiarity with skills and techniques required during the research process, in order to prepare industry-relevant proposals
