Topic description
The topic will build on the knowledge and skills gained in TOUR 1103 Event Design and Practice A. It will introduce higher level concepts and principles of festival and event design and how they and other design elements, including web and graphic design, are integral to the development of successful events. The topic will be an introduction to the development of design briefs for web and graphic designers and how the effective e-marketing of festivals and events begins with an accurate and conceptually consistent design brief. The topic will introduce proposals and bids for festivals and events, current industry practice and those elements contained in a bid or proposal that will maximise its potential for success.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide an understanding of the role and application of design in events and festivals to an advanced level

  • provide knowledge and the skills to develop effective event designs

  • introduce the concepts and principles of effective graphic and web design and their applications and uses within a festival and event context

  • further develop conceptual development and management skills in the creation of design briefs for the marketing of festivals and events on and offline

  • introduce the concepts and principles of effective bidding and tendering for events and festivals and to assist students to develop their proposal and bid writing skills
Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic students will be able to:

  • demonstrate familiarity with the principles of effective on and offline marketing for festivals and events

  • apply the principles of effective event design and be able to apply that knowledge to real world and hypothetical case examples

  • develop event design briefs for graphic and web designers

  • develop basic festival and event bid documentation
