Topic description
This topic allows students to develop a Masters dissertation research proposal, both in a peer-based classroom setting, and through individual contact with a supervisor.

Students will identify a research paradigm and methodology, as well as developing a preliminary literature review. Research proposals will be reviewed, and approved as part of a Masters dissertation.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • allow students to develop an academic research proposal

  • further develop their understanding of research design

  • undertake a scholarly discussion concerning their own research area.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  • construct a valid and reliable research proposal

  • develop a logical and coherent research design

  • analyse critically literature in their research area and link it to their own research

  • communicate their research design, both verbally and in writing, to a range of audiences
