Assumed knowledge
This topic assumes completion of an Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts. Students will be expected to be familiar with the practice and theory of the studio in which they complete their study

Topic description

This topic is designed to develop students’ understanding of the artist, and artistic practice, in the community. Issues covered will include developing appropriate industry networks, managing intellectual property, and developing an understanding of a range of career pathways appropriate for creatives.

Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • Develop students understanding of creative thinkers, as well as creative artists in the community and in the workplace

  • Provide opportunities for students to consider their creative practice in relation to a range of employment pathways

  • Explore ethical and sustainability issues related to creative practice
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • Research and synthesise information in relation to their own place within the creative field

  • Analyse and identify career-oriented goals

  • Develop and adopt a positive attitude to significance of own arts practice within contemporary society
