Topic description
In this topic students will undertake a structured research program consisting of: a series of lectures/tutorials covering the principles of experimental design, data and statistical analysis and presentation of research data; a novel research project of one year's duration in a chosen area of biotechnology under the supervision of an academic staff member of Flinders University.
Educational aims
This topic is a key component of the Masters by Research Course by providing the research experience in a specialised area of Biotechnology under the supervision of an individual research supervisor. The aim of the topic is to provide experience in conducting a novel research project in an area of Biotechnology, by providing students with knowledge of the principles of experimental design, critical analysis of research data and the scientific literature and the experience of presenting information in both written and seminar format.
Expected learning outcomes
Students will gain the capacity to work independently and effectively in a research setting, with creative and innovative problem-solving skills, and have acquired the ability to analyse and interpret scientific literature and research data, and to present their research findings to the scientific community.
