This topic forms part of a programme of study for students undertaking an Honours year in Screen and Media. Individual lecturers may negotiate activities for Honours students to undertake within this topic. The syllabus may constitute an extension of an upper-level undergraduate topic not previously undertaken by the student, or may constitute individual study.

This topic aims to:

• allow students to explore various aspects of Screen Studies in more depth, and with a more sophisticated approach, than is mandated in undergraduate topics

• allow students to put into practice research skills

• provide students with an opportunity to undertake research at Honours level in an area of screen and/or media not otherwise available in the Honours Program

• develop students' skills and abilities in undertaking research and in tailoring a research project at Honours level

• provide an opportunity for students to develop their written and oral presentation skills

On completion of this topics students will have:

• extended and enriched knowledge and expertise in one or more areas of screen and/or media

• further developed skills in a range of research activities

• the ability to communicate research skills and knowledge via written communication/assessment

• advanced written communication skills

• the skills to identify key issues in a specialised area of research
