Topic description
This topic is an opportunity for students to develop new understandings, skills and/or attitudes to support their ongoing development as a speech pathologist. Students will develop and enact a plan to explore in depth a topic of their own interest related to the practice of Speech Pathology. Students will be expected to reflect on what they have learned with reference to its relevance and potential role of speech pathology for communities and/or individuals and how this will influence their future practice.
Educational aims
This topic aims to engage students in actively developing their identity as speech pathologist practitioners and professional skills in the areas of reasoning, lifelong learning, professional behaviour and communication.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be expected to be able to:

  • Identify and develop a feasible personal plan to extend their learning about speech pathology practice.

  • Use reflective practices to develop, critically review and integrate learning gained from a variety of sources.

  • Identify learning that has occurred as a result of their learning activities and reflection.

  • Explain how new learning will inform their developing practice as speech pathologists.

  • Effectively communicate their learning in written form.
