Topic description
This topic is concerned with the theory and practice of financial management of business corporations. The concepts and issues introduced in BUSN2037 Financial Management will be extended to consider investment, financing and dividend decisions of the organisation at a more advanced level, and also interactions between these decisions. A number of more applied topics will also be covered including real options, corporate acquisitions, corporate restructuring, lease financing and project financing.

Upon successful completion of this topic students will be able to:
  1. Identify the role of the Corporate Finance Manager and its main relationship with business objectives
  2. Identify and evaluate the main sources of equity and debt capital
  3. Evaluate investment decisions using a range of evaluation methods
  4. Describe the important theoretical foundations that underpin modern corporate finance practice
  5. Discuss the principles of capital structure and its link to the associated theories
  6. Evaluate the application of corporate finance theory to normative advice on a number of areas of corporate finance practice including the real options, corporate acquisitions, corporate restructuring, lease financing and project financing
  7. Describe the main techniques for valuing company equity and calculate the required share values under a given set of circumstances
  8. Identify the factors that determine a company's dividend policy
  9. Describe the theories and applications surrounding a merger or a takeover and the similarities and differences
  10. Identify the various types of corporate restructuring transactions
  11. Identify and evaluate the theories and applications of leasing
  12. Identify and evaluate the theories and applications of project financing.
