Lecture content will include:

Business functions and processes;
Information Systems theory; Competitive advantage, Porter's competitive forces and value chain models, IT/IS implications;
Business communication systems, work flow management, collaborative work;
Discussion of some information system types including: Financial, Human Resource, Supply Chain, Inventory;
IS Implementation & Improvement; e-commerce, m-commerce, BPR, Managing IT, Evaluating information systems;
Security issues, Risk and disaster recovery and Legal issues;
Contemporary social and ethical issues in Information Systems.

Tutorial/Practical work will include:

Advanced word processing skills;
Use of spreadsheets for decision making and analysis of data;
Role of databases in information systems;
Preparing presentations;
Researching Information, Integrating application data.

To enable students to

Understand business management and processes and how they are supported by IT
Appreciate the inter-relationships between systems and information services in delivering information systems
Explain the legal, ethical and security issues associated with IT systems and information
Use IT productivity application software products to an advanced level

At the completion of the topic, students are expected to be able to:
