Topic description
Lecture content will include:

  • Business functions and processes;

  • Information Systems theory; Competitive advantage, Porter's competitive forces and value chain models, IT/IS implications;

  • Business communication systems, work flow management, collaborative work;

  • Discussion of some information system types including: Financial, Human Resource, Supply Chain, Inventory;

  • IS Implementation & Improvement; e-commerce, m-commerce, BPR, Managing IT, Evaluating information systems;

  • Security issues, Risk and disaster recovery and Legal issues;

  • Contemporary social and ethical issues in Information Systems.

Tutorial/Practical work will include:

  • Advanced word processing skills;

  • Use of spreadsheets for decision making and analysis of data;

  • Role of databases in information systems;

  • Preparing presentations;

  • Researching Information, Integrating application data.

To enable students to
