Topic description
This topic provides students with an introduction to the French language through the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, and to French culture and society. Selected basic structures of the language will be taught and used in real-life situations and with authentic texts (aural and visual).
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • introduce students to the sounds, structures and vocabulary of standard modern French

  • expose students to social and cultural aspects of contemporary France

  • assist students in developing language learning skills and basic learning strategies
Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic students will be able to:

  • recognise, recall and reproduce the basic sounds, structures and vocabulary of elementary French

  • take part in structured conversations using elementary French

  • focus on learning styles and strategies
