Course context
The student must approach the Topic Coordinator or another member of the Department of Health Management's academic staff with a proposal for an area of skills development and study. Supervision will be decided upon after this meeting.
Topic description
Students undertaking 6 units of Major Project in Health Management enrol in HSMT9008A only. For students undertaking 12 units of Major Project in Health Management over two semesters, topics HSMT9008A and HSMT9008B are assessed as a continuum. For students undertaking 18 units over three semesters, topics HSMT9008A, B & C are assessed as a continuum.

Masters candidates are obliged to take this topic (in one of its configurations) to fulfil the research component of their award. Graduate Diploma students may take the 6-unit topic with permission of the course coordinator.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to enable students to undertake a major project in an aspect of health or aged care management of personal interest, in which they can apply and extend the knowledge they have gained through their management studies.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students should be able to:

  • undertake independent investigation and reporting of management problems or opportunities in the workplace

  • design and write reports of a high standard to meet the needs of decision-makers

  • demonstrate ability to prepare papers for publication

  • apply management theories and methods to practical problems and choose appropriate methods for addressing management tasks.
