Topic description
The topic is designed for students who have had no or limited formal instruction in the Modern Greek language. Students receive a systematic introduction to the Modern Greek language in order to gradually develop and improve their communication and written skills.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • introduce students to the Modern Greek language through systematic and progressive reading, writing and listening activities

  • develop students' oral skills in order to communicate in an elementary way on everyday-life topics

  • introduce students to a selective historical and cultural perspective of Greece

  • encourage students to develop critical skills through cross-cultural and cross-linguistic approaches
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • recognise, reproduce and distinguish grammatical, syntactic, lexical and phonetic patterns

  • construct elementary written and spoken texts

  • communicate in elementary written and spoken form of Modern Greek

  • recognise, understand, compare and contrast historical and cultural aspects of Greece
