Topic description
In this topic students will develop specialised knowledge and advanced clinical skills for nursing adults with acute cardiovascular conditions.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is for students to develop specialised knowledge and advanced skills to care for adults with acute cardiovascular conditions.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • explain the aetiology, pathophysiology underpinning the assessment and management of common acute cardiac conditions

  • analyse and interpret the results of diagnostic testing and monitoring used for patients with acute cardiovascular conditions (including advanced rhythm interpretation) and explain the clinical significance of the results

  • analyse, evaluate and discuss the appropriate use of different medical and surgical interventions in the management of different acute cardiovascular conditions

  • synthesize and applythe best available evidence for planning and implementation of nursing care for adults with acute cardiac conditions

  • identify potential physical and emotional issues that are faced by acute cardiac patients and their families
