About Us
AFUW (SA) Inc is the
South Australian branch of a global network of women graduates who
believe that the education of women and girls is a key factor in bringing
about social change.
Together with branches in other states and territories we form
the Australian Federation of University
Women (AFUW), which is one of 79 national federations and associations
of the International Federation of
University Women (IFUW). At the international level, IFUW has
status in several United Nations committees and other related bodies.
Our global network of over 180,000 women graduates allows us to
actively work for the advancement of women worldwide through initiatives
in education, friendship and peace.
Through IFUW and AFUW we have a voice on national and international
matters of importance to the protection of human rights and the
status of women and girls. At the branch level we identify and monitor
local, national and global events affecting women, and speak out
on issues of equity, civil rights and educational (formal and informal)
opportunities. We are committed to:
- The right to accessible education as a means of achieving a
person’s full potential
- A treaty and a program of reconciliation between Indigenous
and non-indigenous Australians
- The right to good health and a safe environment
- The recognition and protection of human rights
- The promotion of peace, justice and equality
- The development of international understanding, co-operation
and friendship
