We are curious about the history of life, patterns in animal behaviour and changes in landscapes. Our research is expanding knowledge about the evolution of the natural world and looking at the impacts of environmental change on land, oceans and rivers.
As a leading university in palaeontology and evolutionary biology, our discoveries have the rewritten chapters on when and how iconic animal groups evolved, and on how Australia’s unique environmental history and landscapes have shaped their ecology. We are conducting world-leading research in aquaculture to promote sustainable industries of the future. And we are helping protect some of the world’s most vulnerable species and threatened regions through research and conservation efforts in marine biology, coastal geomorphology and oceanography, molecular biology and global ecology.
