About Jembatan

The Jembatan initiative was launched at the ninth International Convention for Asian Scholars in Adelaide in July 2015. It formed a cornerstone of Flinders University’s 50th Anniversary celebrations and demonstrates the University’s long standing commitment to its close relationship with Indonesia.

Jembatan works with Indonesian and South Australian government agencies, community organisations, educational institutions and businesses to:

  • support Indonesian cultural and community events such as INDOfest and OzAsia
  • deliver school outreach programs including the Flinders Jembatan Schools Project
  • support and provide professional development programs and activities including the Indonesian International Alumni Symposium
  • facilitate educational programs, study tours and internships in Indonesia.

These multi-disciplinary activities are realised with the generous support of Anton and Kadar Lucas.

Celebrating 40yrs of Indonesian Studies

Celebrating over 40 years of Indonesian at Flinders

For over 40 years, Indonesian has thrived at Flinders. In 2018 we marked this milestone with a series of events to celebrate the richness of that history; from April to November a series of events were held on campus and around the state, to great success.

Flinders University has a long-standing commitment to offering world-class Indonesian language and culture studies.

As the only university in South Australia to offer Indonesian, the Flinders program is built on the understanding that a strong Australia-Indonesia relationship is of vital importance to Australia.
