A student may complete a major sequence of 36 units in Business Studies by completing two Year 1 topics (9 units), two Year 2 topics (9 units) and two Year 3 topics (9 units) plus two additional topics (9 units) from the Year 2 or Year 3 topics listed in the program of study below.
A student may complete a minor sequence of 22.5 units in Business Studies by completing two Year 1 topics (9 units), two Year 2 topics (9 units) plus and additional topic (4.5 units) from the Year 2 or Year 3 Topics listed in the program of study below.
A student may complete an extended major sequence in Business Studies by completing the prescribed major topics (36 units), plus an additional two topics (9 units) from the Year 2 or Year 3 topics listed below.
An extended major sequence in Business Studies is not available to students enrolled in the double Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Arts degrees.
Course aims
This major provides an introduction to the knowledge and skills required for professional, business-related careers in private and public enterprise. It aims to provide students with knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes to facilitate entry into business-related careers. Business Studies provides an introduction to the main knowledge bases of business and includes topics in accounting, marketing, organisational behaviour and human resource management.
Learning outcomes
Students successfully completing this major should be able to:
- demonstrate an appreciation of the broad environment in which business operates
- contribute effectively to the operation of a business
- apply analytical skills, relevant theory and logical thought to various decision making processes within a business
- communicate effectively in a business environment, both verbally and in writing
- demonstrate commitment to ethical and socially responsible business practice.
