Emma is an English (Literature) postgraduate student and is due to submit her thesis for examination in August 2015. Her research project examines the autobiographical strategies employed by girls in comics, zines and digital texts to articulate complex constructions of girlhood. The project also considers how these texts are received and critiqued within culture.

Her research interests include autobiography, pop culture, digital media, and gender.

She is a member of the Flinders University WHIP Postgraduate Association which she founded in 2014 and she is committed to finding new ways to encourage rich postgraduate experiences through community building. Emma is also deeply interested in innovative approaches to university teaching and learning and is participating in the Flinders University Academic Internship in 2014.

She is also member of the Flinders Life Narrative Research Group.

Key responsibilities
  • Emma is on track for timely completion of her PhD thesis in 2015, and has published some of her research in peer-reviewed publications.
  • She is also a casual tutor in the Department of English, Creative Writing and Australian Studies.
  • She administrates both social and research-based community events as part of her role on the WHIP Postgraduate Association committee.
