College of Nursing and Health Sciences
Dr Mariana Reis (PhD) is a Lecturer in the Master of Audiology program within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Flinders University. In addition to teaching academic topics, she supports students in the Flinders University Health2Go interprofessional student clinic.
Her clinical focus is on audiological rehabilitation, with a particular interest in supporting people on their journeys with hearing aids and implantable devices. Central to her practice is the application of ethical and evidence-based principles, bringing together theoretical knowledge and person-centred care.
Her career spans a vast spectrum of audiology, from clinical roles in not-for-profit, public, and private settings in Australia and Brazil, to research and development in start-up and global technology companies, and academic research. This breadth of experience provides her with unique insights into the profession. Additionally, her clinical work in both metropolitan and regional Australia has highlighted differences in resources across these settings – insights she draws on in professional practice and when teaching future audiologists.
Dr Reis’ research is guided by a commitment to improving hearing rehabilitation outcomes for adults, with a focus on strengthening service delivery through evidence-based practice. She is also committed to improving access to hearing healthcare, working to overcome barriers that prevent individuals and communities from receiving the support they need.
Dr Reis is dedicated to maintaining high standards in education, clinical training, and professional practice, while nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and professional integrity in the next generation of audiologists.
