Working in program evaluation for over 20 years, Dr Aylward has designed, managed and conducted over 80 public and primary health care research projects and evaluations across Government, Non-Government and University sectors in the UK and Australia. Specializing in evaluating interventions targeting vulnerable populations and ethnic communities using participatory action research designs, the quality of his work has been broadly recognized; he was awarded the ‘National Commendation for Excellence in Evaluation Study’ by the Australasian Evaluation Society in 2002 following his evaluation of a mental health program addressing three refugee communities in South Australia. Dr. Aylward has developed and delivered Evaluation courses for Primary Health Care workers and for under-graduate and post-graduate programs at the University of Adelaide and Flinders University; he continues to supervise PhD students from both Universities. Dr. Aylward was also the SA based ‘Tri-Statewide Coordinator’ for the ‘Primary Health Care Research and Evaluation Development program (PHCRED)’ and has designed and delivered over 100 workshops in evaluation or research methods applied in public health to professional service providers across Australia in addition to designing several capacity building Evaluation resources currently used in Universities and Government departments in Australia and overseas. Dr. Aylward currently works part-time for Flinders University as a Senior Research Fellow at the Discipline of Public Health and has been the Principal of ‘Action Research Partnerships’, a research and evaluation consultancy which he founded in 2005.

Dr Aylward works PT at Flinders University where he supervisers PhD students in Public Health and Coordinates several Public health Topics. Paul is also the Principal of an evaluation consultance 'Action Research Partnerships' which he has ran for over twenty years.
