Participant in two current ARC funded projects: Founders and Survivors and Convicts and Diggers. These projects explore the roots of resilience in human populations by examining in longitudinal perspective the free, convict and digger populations of Tasmania using Civil Register and other records. Major hypotheses concerning the impact of hardship on subsequent demographic and social behaviour are examined by comparing prisoner and digger populations, and their descendants, with free settlers and their subsequent offspring.
