Rui Hugman is a Reserach Fellow at Flinders University. He has a background in Environmental Engineering (Bsc. and Msc. in Environmental Engineering and PhD in Marine, Earth and Environmental Science (University of the Algarve, Portugal). After completing his PhD he received a postdoctoral fellowship at the Future Water Institute (University of Cape Town, South Africa) where he was involved in developing transdisciplinary research addressing issues of water scarcity in southern Africa. Shortly after, he joined Umvoto Africa as senior modeller to supervise and develop groundwater models in support of the emergency implementation of groundwater supply to the City of Cape Town.
Rui is currently dedicated to the Groundwater Modelling Decision Support Initiative (GMDSI). The initiative aims to improve the role that groundwater modelling plays in supporting environmental management and decision-making. Rui is primarily involved with the development and demonstration of data assimilation and uncertainty analysis methodologies and software to support groundwater management.
