The Jessie Cooper Scholarship for Women (Adult Entry) has been established to provide financial assistance for mature age women facing financial or personal circumstances inhibiting them from finishing their degrees.
The scholarship was originally known as the Jessie Cooper Study Grants for Mature Entry Women, which were established in 1994 through the fundraising efforts of the former Flinders Alumni Association. The grants sought to address a growing concern about the retention rates of women in their final years of study. The grants recognised the anniversary of 100 years since the establishment of the South Australian women’s suffrage movement and honoured the first female elected into State Parliament Jessie Cooper.
Subject to sufficient funds being available, there will be one scholarship to the value of $2,000 (based on a full-time study load, or proportionately reduced for a part-time load)
Scholarship holders must remain enrolled in the year in which the study grant is awarded. Scholarship payments will be withdrawn if the holder withdraws or is precluded from the course, and will not be available for a repeat year of study.
Source of Funds
Established with the generous financial support of staff, friends and alumni of Flinders University.
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic merit.
Selection will be made in accordance with procedures approved by the Director, Academic and Student Services. If no applicants are considered to be of sufficient merit the scholarship shall not be awarded.
Applications should be submitted online through the Flinders University Student System by the specified closing date.
The availability of the scholarships will be described on the University website
