Deirdre Jordan Village Rural Scholarship for Commencing Students Rules

Flinders Living has established the Deirdre Jordan Village Rural Scholarship for Commencing Students. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a rural first year student. Subject to the availability of funds there will be one annual scholarship valued at $1,000 which will be credited to the recipient's Accommodation Fee account at Flinders Living.

ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be permanent residents of rural Australia who: (a) normally reside outside of the Adelaide metropolitan area and the metropolitan areas of other major Australian cities (as defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics Local Council areas); and (b) have lived in a rural or regional area of Australia for at least four years preceding the commencement of higher education; and (c) have completed the final two years of schooling in a high school or college in a rural or regional area. Applicants who lived away from their rural or regional home to complete the whole or the majority of their secondary schooling at a high school or college in a major city may be considered if they are able to demonstrate financial need; and (d) have not lived away from home previously on a permanent basis; and (e) will be in their first year of higher education study and be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate course of study at Flinders University; and (f) will be residing at the Deirdre Jordan Village for the duration of the academic year in which the award is made.

TENURE: The scholarship will be awarded for the normal duration of one academic year. The scholarship holder must remain enrolled full-time and reside for the full academic year in the Deirdre Jordan Village in the year for which the scholarship is awarded. Scholarship payments will be made directly into the recipient's Accommodation Fee account at Flinders Living in four equal instalments throughout the year. Scholarship payments will be withdrawn and, except in exceptional circumstances, reimbursement for any previous payments will be required, should the recipient withdraw from their course of study or no longer reside in the Deirdre Jordan Village.

SOURCE OF FUNDS: The scholarship is funded by Flinders Living.

SELECTION: The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic merit. Selection will be made in accordance with procedures approved by the Director, Student Administration and Systems.

Applicants will need to login and navigate to the My Scholarships tab to submit an application. You will be considered for multiple scholarships if you complete this application.
