Orientation for New Staff: Equal Opportunity, Occupational Health and Safety and Security at Flinders

Course description

This session will provide information about equal opportunity policies at Flinders University, and will outline assistance available for managing equal opportunity issues. It is mandatory for all New Staff members to attend this workshop to gain information about the University approach to equal opportunity, harassment and disability issues.

This session will also define the legislative requirements and obligations that apply to the University in relation to OH&S. The structure of OH&S organisation will be highlighted with the roles of the Health and Safety Representatives and the OH&S Committee being summarised. The session will then go on to explain the Incident/Accident reporting procedure along with the Hazard Management approach for contending with hazards in the workplace. Finally, the role of the OH&S Unit will be illustrated, giving information on contacts and functions.

A brief overview of Security measures at Flinders will be covered, including building security, emergency procedures, driving on campus, safety escorts, and where to get assistance.
