Orientation for New Staff: Equal Opportunity, Work Health and Safety and Security at Flinders

Course description

The session will provide information about equal opportunity legislation and Flinders University policies, and will outline assistance available for managing equal opportunity issues.  It is mandatory for all new staff members to attend this workshop to gain information about the University's approach to equal opportunity, bullying, harassment and disability issues.

The session will also define the legislative requirements and obligations that apply to the University in relation to work health and safety. The structure of work health and safety organisation will be highlighted with the roles of the Health and Safety Representatives and the Work Health and Safety Committee being summarised. The session will then go on to explain the Incident/Accident reporting procedure along with the Hazard Management approach for contending with hazards in the workplace. Finally, the role of the Work Health and Safety Unit will be illustrated, giving information on contacts and functions.

A brief overview of Security measures at Flinders will be covered, including building security, emergency procedures, driving on campus, safety escorts, and where to get assistance.
