Assessment
Essay and Theory Presentation 50%; Comparative Review 30%; In-class and seminar work 20%.
Topic description

This topic will introduce students to the types of communication, both written and oral, necessary for active creative artists in contemporary Australia. It will examine texts drawn from a number of different Humanities disciplines, and will analyse them with regard to genre, art history and cultural theory. It also maintains an emphasis on academic skills.

Educational aims

This topic aims to introduce students to:

  • The analysis of different kinds of creative work
  • Critical and theoretical means of textual analysis
  • The research and written skills required for tertiary study in the humanities
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of various methodologies required for textual analysis
  2. Demonstrate an awareness of creative practice across several media
  3. Demonstrate basic skills required for successful essay writing at a tertiary level
