Topic description

This topic introduces student to the nursing profession and independent learning. These two areas are intertwined in preparing students to study successfully and to develop the required knowledge, skills and attributes required of a Registered Nurse.

Educational aims

This topic aims to develop skills and capabilities to support independent learning for successful transition to university, the nursing profession and lifelong learning.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate foundational knowledge of the professional roles and responsibilities of registered nurses, inclusive of law and ethics and requirements of governing bodies in Australia
  2. Explain and model therapeutic and professional communication techniques in line with professional standards and codes
  3. Demonstrate skills and capabilities to promote successful transition to university, nursing and progression through the Bachelor of Nursing program
  4. Discuss strategies, resources and tools identified to facilitate own learning and promote lifelong learning
