Topic description
This is a practical topic designed to further skills and extend experience in theatrical practice. Workshops will focus on improvisation skills, devising and working on rehearsed readings of scripts in small groups.
Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Develop students' understanding of the skills required in acting and producing work for the stage (including Improvisation skills; Devising skills; Script analysis; and Rehearsed readings)
  • Provide students with the skills required to work collaboratively in an ensemble
  • Provide opportunities for students to critically reflect on their performance and collaboration skills
  • Develop skills in script analysis
  • Develop students’ ability to communicate dramatic meaning through a variety of theatrical languages in performance
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Evaluate your own competence in improvising, devising and embodying a character
  2. Apply improvisation and devising strategies in collaboration with peers to create performances
  3. Analyse scripts to identify the given circumstances, character relationships, plot, style and dramatic meaning within historical and contemporary contexts
  4. Apply your analysis of scripts to your interpretation of the script when designing and creating performance
  5. Interrogate the concept and skill of collaboration as it relates to theatre practice
